What
really sets Casa de Campo apart...
are the four golf courses designed
by Pete Dye, each offering the golf enthusiast breathtaking beauty and
challenge for all levels of play. The famous “Teeth of the Dog”, with
its distinct and striking seven holes skirting the sea is ranked by Golf
Magazine in their Top 100 Golf Courses in the world year after year, currently
#35, and always #1 in the Caribbean.
Trying to top the
“Teeth” was no small matter, yet in designing the new "Dye Fore"
course, Pete’s son P.B. (and fellow golf architect) commented
“I’ve seen enough golf courses to know nothing compares to it. Where
else do you have the Caribbean Sea, a river 300 feet below the course, a
16th century Mediterranean village, and mountains as a
backdrop.” It is truly shock and awe!
The third course, the
“Links” course, is a moderately hilly Dye design with distant ocean
views and five water holes. The private La Romana Country Club offers a
terrific upland Dye course layout surrounded by magnificent villas and ocean
views.
TEETH OF THE
DOG
Play on the
“Teeth’s” seven waterholes is wild with errant shots bouncing
off rocks like a ping-pong ball and strong Caribbean ocean breezes challenging
every stroke. But it’s the magical location combined with Dye’s
personal touches that catapulted the “Teeth of the Dog”
to one of
the best in the world.
Although
credited with designing the course, Dye is quick to point out
that the
“Teeth” was “definitely designed by the man upstairs.” In
other words, “I created eleven holes and God created seven!”

"DYE FORE"
The newest Dye course perched around the
quaint artisan village of Altos de Chavon is giving its players breathtaking
views of the Chavon River and the Caribbean Sea, and golf architect Pete Dye is
making history once again at Casa de Campo with nine cliff-side holes. With
wife Alice again at his side, Pete has created a third resort course sure to be
destined to be another Dye-abolical treasure in golf annals and rumored to
rival the“Teeth of the Dog.” “Dye Fore” sits on what he
calls “the best piece of land I’ve ever worked on.” Perched on
the cliffs overlooking the Chavon River, this Dye layout promises to be one of
the most spectacular courses in the world.
LINKS
“The Links” is interior to the
Resort property with spectacular views of the Caribbean.
Dye would have
preferred to have it named La Barranca, or “the little hill” for it
offers an undulating layout reminiscent of traditional British and Scottish
courses, featuring small greens and several lakes. Ask any golfer who has
played “The Links” and you will hear that this course can be equally
as challenging as the “Teeth.” |
